Trustfell 4: Trust Fall or Die Hard ([personal profile] trustwellness) wrote2017-03-21 12:06 pm

My young heart chose to believe; where does it stop, where do you stop?

Welcome to Trustfell's endgame! We have some information for you regarding how the next few days are going to go - read on to see what you're going to be looking at!

SO THIS IS THE END, HUH?
It is! These next few days, the ultimate fate of the game will be decided - no pressure or anything, of course.

A LOT OF PEOPLE DIED REALLY QUICKLY THIS TIME AROUND, GOODNESS.
They sure did. We definitely appreciate everyone's participation in the round, however!

WELL, IT'S THE ELEVENTH HOUR AND MY CHARACTER IS STILL ALIVE. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
It means that you've earned your entry to the final battle! It does not, however, mean you've won the game.

There are several endings that may be brought into play, depending on the party's actions. Along with a standard good ending that ensures the survival of the eight of you still left, there are still several ways to bring the game to a bad or otherwise unfortunate conclusion, and there are also ways to make the standard ending better for yourselves. It all comes down to how well you do, and what actions you take at several critical junctures over the course of the "storyline," as it were.

HOW UNFORTUNATE OF A CONCLUSION ARE WE TALKING?
We're talking about a complete and irreversible total-party kill, actually.

OH.
Yeah.

WELL, THAT DOESN'T SOUND NICE. HOW DO WE AVOID GETTING A BAD ENDING?
Glad you asked! We have a few objectives that you have to meet, and all of them must be met in order to satisfy the requirements for the standard good ending. They're a little on the demanding side, but don’t let that make you too nervous - we want to see you beat the twisted evil things. So we won't make it easy for you, but we will make it possible, and we won’t go out of our way to lock you into a bad ending.

...We’re going to make you work for it, though. No rewards without initiative, even if the initiative is a lot less murder-happy this time around.

WHAT OBJECTIVES DO WE NEED TO MEET?
First of all, there's a 100% participation rule in effect - if anyone in the survivor pool does not show up for either the investigation or the trial, the entire set of Apprentices will be considered to have not met the requirements and will be locked into a bad end. In order to count as "present", everyone must make 15 comments in both the investigation and the trial - in other words, 30 comments total over both logs.

We're also enforcing a 100% completion rule with regards to the storyline. ICly, it's your job to work out exactly where you are, what you're doing there, who the Wordsmith actually is, and generally solve all the mysteries presented to you in the university over the past two months.

(Both of these sound kind of like a lot, but it's not as intimidating as it seems, we promise - it'll go a lot more easily than you might think on the actual logs!)

You've also done well on not requiring the offered mod save over the course of the game, in the event of an accidental bad ending! ...Unfortunately, that mod save is no longer available to you during the final trial. There are absolutely no saves, strikes or failsafes from here on out - you'll get the ending you earn, and there are no do-overs.

WHERE IS THIS FINAL INVESTIGATION GOING TO TAKE PLACE, ANYWAY?
There are a few special areas that will be opened up for you for the sake of investigation! How do you get to it? ...Well, you'll see.

IS THERE ANY SORT OF PROCEDURE THAT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BEFORE WE BEGIN?
So there is. For the sake of the mods' sanity and general ability to streamline the investigation process, it's recommended that you split into pairs for the sake of investigation; once you've done that, you and your partners should pick a number, one through four. You can decide these among yourselves, we won't assign you; we just ask that you please do it and submit your decision to us in a comment to this post before the investigation starts. The sooner the better!

As for the investigation itself, you'll find that all relevant doors on the floor you choose to investigate will be unlocked, and there's no particular protocol for getting into the rooms that isn't "knowing how to operate a standard doorknob." Some of the information may be locked up, though, and you'll have to find the key to get at it.

OKAY, SO WE'VE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND A FUCKLOT OF EVIDENCE. WHAT NOW?
Once the investigation stage is over, you'll be called back to the courtroom and the preliminary trial will begin! This is where you're responsible for figuring out the Wordsmith's secrets, primarily, and working out who he is. Following that comes the final Responsibility stage of the game, which will be carried out in front of the Wordsmith in person; this is where you prove to him that you’ve done your homework and solved all the mysteries of the university, and then decide your fate.

ARE ALL OF THE RULES STILL IN PLACE FOR THE FINAL INVESTIGATION/TRIAL?
Yes, they are! The Wordsmith is still entirely capable of enforcing those rules, too, so it's in everyone's best interest to adhere to them. Of specific note is Rule 5, explicitly forbidding violence against the Wordsmith unless invited to engage.

SO I'M CURIOUS. IS THERE A CHANCE FOR A FULL AND PROPER GOLDEN ENDING?
The answer to that, my friend, involves a spoiler. Sorry!

WAIT! I STILL HAVE A QUESTION THAT YOU HAVEN'T ANSWERED!
Feel free to jump into the comments and ask away! Mods will be standing by.
